Golden evenings in east yorkshire
There’s something so special about summer evenings. The long golden light, children running barefoot through the grass, wildflowers swaying in the breeze and families simply enjoying being together. It’s my favourite time of year to photograph.
This year’s Summer Mini Sessions were everything I hoped they would be. Set in the beautiful East Yorkshire countryside, each family had just 20 minutes to relax, play and make memories. While 20 minutes might sound short, it’s often the perfect amount of time—especially for little ones. There’s no pressure to sit still or smile on command. Instead, we explore, cuddle, laugh, chase bubbles, pick flowers and capture genuine moments that tell your family’s story.
One of the questions I’m asked most is whether mini sessions are enough time. The answer is almost always yes. Children naturally engage when they’re having fun, and because the sessions move quickly, they rarely have chance to become bored. The result is a gallery full of natural smiles, cuddles and those fleeting little expressions you’ll treasure forever.
Choosing the right location is just as important as the photographs themselves. I carefully select outdoor settings that offer beautiful light, soft colours and plenty of space for children to explore safely. Summer provides the dreamiest backdrop, with warm evening sunshine adding a timeless glow to every image.
If you’re wondering what to wear for a family photo session, I always recommend soft, neutral colours that complement one another rather than matching exactly. Linen, cotton and textured fabrics photograph beautifully, and avoiding large logos or bold patterns helps keep the focus where it belongs—on your family.
