If you’ve never had professional family photographs taken before, it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous. Many parents worry about whether their children will behave, whether they’ll know what to do in front of the camera, or whether everyone will smile at the right time.

The truth is… your session doesn’t need to be perfect to create beautiful photographs.

Before Your Session

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you everything you need to feel prepared, including advice on choosing outfits, the best time to arrive and what to bring along.

If you have little ones, don’t worry about asking them to “smile nicely” before you come. The best photographs happen when children are simply free to be themselves.

We’ll Take Things Slowly

When we meet, there are no awkward poses or forced smiles. Instead, we’ll start with a gentle walk, giving everyone a chance to settle in and feel comfortable.

Children often need a few minutes to warm up, and that’s absolutely fine. There’s never any pressure.

It’s More Like an Adventure Than a Photoshoot

We’ll explore, play games, cuddle, chat and laugh together. Your children might pick flowers, run through the grass, climb onto your shoulders or hold your hand as we wander.

These are the moments that tell your family’s story.

Some of my favourite images are the ones you never planned—the giggles after a tickle, the cuddles when little legs get tired, or the way your child instinctively reaches for your hand.

Don’t Worry if Your Child Doesn’t Sit Still

In fact, I don’t expect them to.

Children are naturally curious, and I build my sessions around that. Running, exploring and playing often create the most joyful, genuine photographs.

There is no expectation for perfect behaviour—only real moments.

Parents, You’re in the Photos Too

It’s so easy to focus on your children and forget that these photographs are for them just as much as they are for you.

One day they’ll look back and treasure the way you held them, laughed with them and loved them in this season of life.

That’s what I’m really capturing.

After Your Session

Once your gallery is ready, you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view and download your images. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase beautiful professional prints and wall art to enjoy in your home for years to come.

The Memories Matter Most

Family life is wonderfully messy. Toddlers get muddy, babies need cuddles, and someone will probably pull a funny face at some point.

Those little imperfections are often the moments you’ll cherish the most.

My goal isn’t to create perfect photographs—it’s to create honest, timeless memories that remind you exactly what this chapter of your family’s life felt like.

If you’re looking for a relaxed family photographer in East Yorkshire, I’d love to help you capture those moments. I’d be honoured to tell your family’s story through photographs you’ll treasure for generations.
